THIS IS AN ADVANCED COURSE, WHOSE AIM IS TO TACKLE SOME TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN LAW. STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO FACE THE ORIGINAL SOURCES AND TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT HISTORIOGRAPHICAL QUESTIONINGS.

This course aims at a technical and historical understanding of the key moment during which the basic elements of western law have been created.Through direct contact with medieval sources and a seminarial methodology, the course will display the creation of the idea of legal norm in 12th and 13th centuries; it will also consider the evolution of legal institutions like property and real rights, obligations, legal personality.

Evaluation of the students will be based 40% on their engagement during the course, 30% on a mid-term exam, and 30% on the final oral exam.
