The Roma Tre Law Department was established in 1996, with the mission to offer a greater selection for students interested in obtaining a degree in law. Differently from what is the general tendency in other Italian law departments, admission to Roma Tre has been selective from the start, with a selection process carried out by entry examination each year.
While most of Roma Tre’s law students come from Rome, increasingly, students from all over the country choose to study law at Roma Tre, drawn to its strengths in internationalization and international relations, fields enjoying a deep commitment by Roma Tre Law’s faculty. Each year, the Department receives from abroad and sends abroad approximately over 100 students through the Erasmus programme and bi-lateral exchanges with extra-European universities. Presently, students from nearly forty universities throughout Europe and around the world are enrolled in the Faculty. Together with the University of Poitiers, in France, the Roma Tre Law Department is offering a bi-national/bi-lingual law degree valid in both France and Italy.
The Faculty also has a dual-degree programme – unique for Italy – with Nova Southeastern University (Florida), which allows students to acquire both a Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza and a US JD degree. Roma Tre students can also study in US law schools in Semester Abroad exchanges, now in force at Nova Southeastern University, Cardozo Law School and the University of Washington. In addition, students can study law at the Shanghai International Studies University and at the University of Canberra in Australia. Annexed to the Departmente are two Ph.D. programmes, each of which is strongly connected with other European universities.
