THIS IS AN ADVANCED COURSE, WHOSE AIM IS TO TACKLE SOME TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN LAW. STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO FACE THE ORIGINAL SOURCES AND TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT HISTORIOGRAPHICAL QUESTIONINGS.

Programma

The purpose of this course aims to depict the role of the Medieval Church in the formation of Ius Commune in Europe and to examine the intertwinement of ecclesiastical categories with those of Roman Law and of Iura propria. More specifically, the contribution of Canon Law to the formation of the modern European Law will be examined from the administrative and economic points of view.

Modalità Erogazione

Each topic will be analysed by the Professor through the reading of medieval and modern legal sources and the discussion of academical writings. Students will undertake research on specific issues concerning these topics and will present their findings to the class.

Modalità Frequenza

During the course, attending students will take evaluation examinations on the individual topics covered in class.

Modalità Valutazione

Students attending the course will be evaluated on the basis of works presented to the class every fortnight. They must show to have performed a correct bibliographical research and to have examined legal sources according to reading techniques explained by the Professor. Non-attending students will be evaluated on the basis of a written examination consisting of a series of open-ended questions on the contents of the textbook.
